Our community will reconvene for ACR 2023, October 26-28, 2023, in Seattle, the City of Goodwill. In a play on the city’s motto, the conference will be dedicated to Spreading Good…Well.

Our theme of “Spreading Good…Well” can be interpreted in multiple ways, depending on the lens of the reader.

  • Sessions will be packed with Good quality, rigorous research that is Well done: across a variety of paradigms and methodologies. Examples of these include our Methods workshops, special, competitive, and working papers, as well as roundtables and videography sessions that will be inclusive of a wide range of research that is of interest to consumer researchers.

  • Many conference sessions will be designed along the theme of helping our community Spread Goodwill and doing it Well! For example, our planned plenary sessions that will focus on issues related to business ethics, corporate social responsibility, environmental marketing, consumer health (food consumption, addiction), financial decision making, responses to scarcity, special populations (subsistence marketplaces, the homeless and other vulnerable populations), and charitable giving. We will pepper the conference with different types of sessions devoted to these topics (e.g., in films, working paper poster sessions, competitive paper sessions, and special sessions).

  • Spreading Good … Well, can also mean sharing your mentorship tips and skills with young researchers, especially PhD students. To this end, we will continue, and enlarge, the excellent 2022 initiative of the Networking Lunch, and will continue with the Early Career and Mid-Career Workshops.

  • Spreading Good … Well, can be construed as ways to make a positive societal social impact through charities and donations. You will have an opportunity to engage in these behaviors, in a fun manner, during the conference!

  • Spreading Good … Well can be a personal endeavor too. In addition to sessions highlighting the latest consumer research and methodologies, we will help Spread the Good by offering Wellness classes. Finally, we will Spread the Good by tapping all of your senses when we bring the Seattle experience to you with Good food, coffee and wine tastings from local companies, and a variety of drinks and music at our social events.

ACR 2023 Teaser: The conference will kick off with a series of pre-conference sessions: the ACR/Sheth Foundation Doctoral Symposium, the Early Career Workshop and the Mid-Career Workshop. The conference will begin with an Opening Reception on Thursday, October 26. The next two days, October 27 and 28th, will comprise of plenary sessions, research presentations including papers and films, and method workshops. Highlights of the conference will include addresses by our ACR President, Tina M. Lowrey, and the 2023 ACR Fellows, Rik Pieters, and Susan Fournier. The conference will conclude with a Gala on Saturday evening at the Museum of Pop Culture, which will offer good food, wine, music, and the opportunity to help a charity to allow the ACR community to interact and Spread Good … Well!
Please submit your best work in the form of working papers (for the poster session), competitive papers, proposals for special sessions and roundtables, and films.

We look forward to welcoming you for ACR 2023 in Seattle, a city that is well known for its lively blend of music, food, and ethnic diversity, as well as for “Spreading Goodwill!”

Come and join us in Spreading Good … Well!

PRESENTING A WORKING PAPER AT ACR 2023

Your working paper presentation:
Friday, October 27, 2023 from 6:30-8:00 pm
Grand Ballroom and Grand Pre-function Area

Working papers will be presented in the form of posters, which will be grouped by theme. At least
one of the authors must be present during the session on Friday, October 27th from 6:30-8:00 pm
and be ready to interact with attendees while standing close to their poster. If one author
represents a team that wrote the paper, that person should be capable of responding to questions
concerning all aspects of the presented research.
A poster is a lovely way to present your research. You should aim to use the poster as a means
for generating active discussion of the research. It is helpful if poster presenters bring handouts or
printed copies of the working paper to distribute among interested poster visitors. Before the
poster session, do prepare and rehearse a summary talk on your project. Many viewers will be in a
hurry and will want a quick "guided tour" of your poster. Don't be afraid to point out uncertainties in your work; this is where you may get useful feedback. Your poster will be listed in the program
and the short abstract of your working paper will appear in the conference proceedings.

Poster Installation

Starting at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, October 27th you can come to the Grand Ballroom Prefunction
Area and Ballroom on the second floor of the Sheraton to affix your poster. The week before the
conference, you will receive your poster number and a floorplan of the working papers session so
that you can see where your poster will be displayed. We will provide push pins for you to attach
your posters.

Format:
Please note: You will be sharing one side of a 4’x8’ poster board with another presenter.
Therefore, the maximum poster size should be 46” (116.84 cm) x 42” (106.68). Our poster boards
can only accommodate posters in portrait format. We recommend you NOT laminate your poster
with plastic. Laminated posters tend to curl and are difficult to affix to the boards.
Here’s an example of a past poster session board with two posters.

Design and layout specifications:

Keep in mind that a poster is a graphical approach to presenting research.

  • You can attract attention with a good topic and a visually appealing presentation.
  • Organization and clarity are critical. Limit the text to one fourth of the poster space, and mainly rely on visuals (graphs, photographs, flowcharts, etc.) to tell your story
  • Your poster title and author information should be positioned at the top-center of the poster. Font size for the title should be at least 70 points, for author information at least 30 points. Use all capital letters for the title.
  • Make it obvious to the viewer how to navigate the poster. The poster generally should read from left to right, and top to bottom. Numbering individual panels or connecting them with arrows is a standard guidance system
  • Leave some open space in the design. An open layout is less tiring to the eye and mind.
  • Text should be readable from 1.50 meters distance. Use a minimum font size of 24 points.

Visuals:

Present numerical data in the form of graphs, rather than tables. Graphs make relationships
between variables or differences between means much more evident. If data must be presented in
table-form, KEEP IT SIMPLE.

  • Visuals should be simple. Leave out or remove any unnecessary details.
  • Make sure that any visual can stand alone (i.e., graph axes are properly labeled, symbols are explained, etc.).
  • Use color to enhance comprehension, not to decorate the poster.
  • Make sure that the text and the visuals are integrated. Figures should be numbered consecutively according to the order in which they are first mentioned in the text. Each visual should have a brief title.

Text:

Use text to (a) introduce the study: What hypothesis was tested or what problem was investigated? Why was the study worth doing? (b) explain visuals and direct viewer attention to relevant data and relationships portrayed in the visuals, and (c) state and explain the interpretations that follow from the data. In many cases, conclusions can be summarized in a bullet-point list.

Add key references to the paper, but do not exaggerate. References should be
formatted according to the guidelines in the paper submission guidelines.
